Heartland Bank Australia backed by 150 years of trans-Tasman banking experience
11 February 2026
Heartland Bank Australia is proud to mark a significant milestone for its parent company, Heartland Group: 150 years of banking and finance experience across New Zealand and Australia.
While Heartland Group’s origins date back to 1875, Heartland Bank Australia has its own rich history, dating back to 1971 with the establishment of Transcomm Credit Union.
Building on that local foundation, Heartland Bank Australia was eventually formed through Heartland’s acquisition of its reverse mortgage business in 2014, StockCo Australia in 2022, and Challenger Bank in 2024. That local legacy, combined with the strength and experience of a long‑established trans‑Tasman banking group, underpins Heartland Bank Australia.
Today, Heartland Bank Australia provides specialist banking products designed to enable better lives for Australians. The bank focuses on three core products: Reverse Mortgages, Livestock Finance, and competitive Savings and Deposits.
“We are incredibly proud to be part of a group with a 150-year heritage of doing things differently,” Heartland Bank Australia CEO Michelle Winzer said.
“Our story is one of continuous progress, evolving our digital capabilities and specialist services to ensure Australian customers can reach their goals,” she said.
As of 30 June 2025, Heartland Bank Australia solidified its position as a market leader in reverse mortgages, capturing a 40% share of the Australian market. Its livestock finance business, StockCo, had funded one million livestock to Australian farmers by the end of the last financial year.
“This 150-year legacy gives Australians confidence that Heartland Bank Australia is here for the long term, with a clear focus on specialist banking,” Winzer said.
Heartland Group is a dual-listed trans-Tasman financial services group with banking operations in New Zealand and Australia, collectively servicing more than 185,000 customers.
